FAQ

Questions, answered.

The things R&D firms and CPAs ask us most about Data Wrangler.

What exactly does Data Wrangler do?
It takes the raw data exports your clients send — payroll, wage records, time tracking, project logs — and normalizes them into a single, consistent, study-ready dataset. Messy inputs in, structured R&D study data out.
Who is it for?
R&D tax credit firms and CPAs who run studies and are tired of spending days reformatting and reconciling client data before the real work can start. Unlike platforms that market directly to the businesses claiming the credit, Data Wrangler is built for practitioners — your clients stay your clients, and the work product carries your firm's name.
Who built Data Wrangler?
InfoLink, an R&D tax firm with 20+ years and 750+ studies behind it — not a software company that learned the domain second-hand. We built it for our own engagements first, which is why it handles the data clients actually send, not the data a spec sheet assumes they send.
Does it connect directly to Gusto, Jira, ADP, and so on?
Not in this version. Data Wrangler works from the files your client exports — you upload CSV, XLSX, or PDF and it reads them. The vendor names you see describe the export formats it understands, not live account integrations you have to set up.
Does Data Wrangler calculate the credit or run the study for me?
No — and that's deliberate. Most R&D credit software tries to be an end-to-end platform: intake, estimate, study, filing. Data Wrangler only prepares the data. Your firm keeps running the study, applying the methodology, and signing the return; we handle the prep that eats the first days of every engagement.
What does the output look like?
A consistent schema built around what a study needs: employee wages, project allocation, and time by business component. Export it as CSV or JSON and drop it straight into your existing workflow — your engagement never has to live inside someone else's system.
How does it handle mismatched or incomplete data?
The AI maps fields and matches employees across sources automatically, then flags gaps and low-confidence matches for a human to review — so nothing important is silently guessed. In work that has to stand up to IRS scrutiny, a black-box answer is a liability; you see exactly what was mapped, what was flagged, and why.
Is my clients’ data secure?
Your data is used only to produce your output, moves over encrypted connections, and is deleted on request. See the Security page for the full picture.
